Day 76 Rain In Ontario August 26, 2001

! got on the Lake Ontario Parkway this morning. ! was a bit concerned
since it looked like and interstate on the map. It started right by the
campground and was nearly uninhabited. Nice smooth concrete and a bit of a
tailwind. ! was making good time. Not much happening around here. NY is
pretty dull. Today is the day of the Vancouver Ironman Triathlon. It looked
like there was a triathlon or a Time Trial around here this morning. ! saw
several TT bikes on cars out on the road. ! don't think ! ever made it into
Rochester, NY. Just the suburbs. ! was going to look for a hotel in Webster,
NY but the cop ! talked to said ! would have to backtrack 2 or 3 miles. He
also said there was a Super 8 in Ontario, NY just about 8 miles up the road.
! went for Ontario. ! turned @ the sign for the business district. It had
every business in town listed. One hotel. Not a Super 8. And not anywhere to
be found. ! went to the main town then on the road parallel to the highway
and back out to 104. Nothing. ! went on 3 miles to a convenience store. They
told ME there was an hotel 5 miles back. And none anywhere nearby to the East
or south. Of course there was a head wind and it was actually 6 miles. ! got
the last room and just after ! got inside it started raining hard. Just for a
bit though. Now ! can't figure out how to get online here. MY modem can't
hear the dial tone. ! wanted a hotel so ! could get online. Looks like this
is going to get longer before it gets sent. 74 miles.
