Day 68 Across Canadia August 18, 2001

In the middle of breakfast they announced that we would soon be passing
Pyramid Falls. The train slowed down and there they were. ! saw a mountain
goat climbing the hill over a tunnel. Lots of cows too. ! think they may have
been wild cows. We left the Rockies early today and now are on the plains.
The train stopped for an hour in Jasper and again in Edmonton. ! asked if we
would get to see where the Oilers practice losing to the Avs. Too bad !
forgot to wear MY Avs cap when ! went into the station. The pit crew in
Edmonton were all wearing Roller Blades. Those Canucks are just so wacky.
More wonderful grub today. The Edmonton station is right between the end of
the runway for one of their little airports and the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police vicious dog training center. There was a helicopter parked in the
obstacle course. Amazing. They are actually teaching police dogs (Canadian
Shepherds no doubt) to fly choppers. We had a wine tasting this afternoon and
saw the Westbound version of Le Canadien. 0 miles of course.
