Day 66 Oot and Aboot August 16, 2001

! just wandered aboot today. @ the market ! found after much searching 1
kind of blueberry muffin mix. ! got it to make blueberry bread. This morning
! looked under the counters and found a loaf pan. Good deal. Then ! looked
for the oven. There was none. If ! weren't an American !'d have had no bread.
Damnit! ! bought the mix. ! want the bread. ! made it happen. ! mixed half
the bag w/ water right in the pan. It tasted good. Then ! came up w/ a large
skillet to set the pan in. then ! found another large skillet to cover the
pan and the other skillet w/. Voila, an oven. That's the American way. Later
! went down to the nude beach since it is nearby. It was a lot like hippie
fest on Vashon Island except no clothes. ! think you need the pot to enjoy
neked hippies. You certainly need it if you're going to talk to them. Then to
Jericho Beach. ! called up the guy who opened the very first Domino's Pizza
franchises in Vancouver, BC. He sold everything several years ago and now
just farms. He's way out in the suburbs where the buses don't run w/ bikes.
All ! wanted was a free pizza. Oh, right. ! know him and his wife from when
he was the manager of the store in Murray, KY (that's the Jelly State). ! was
a driver there then. It was MY first real job. ! was damn good @ it of
course. It would take 3 hours to get as close as possible in the bus and that
would leave ME having to walk 2 or 3 miles. ! went to the beach. He said they
still owe him $150,000 and won't even deliver to his house since he's just
out of their area. He's going to have to get on them about the payment. They
are in default now. Tomorrow ! will have to figure out something about MY
rack. ! have an idea. Once again ! am an American. We make things happen. It
broke yesterday w/ no weight on it. ! figured it would so ! took the empty
B.O.B to get groceries. !'m going to try zip tying it onto the trailer wheel
sort of like a regular rack. !'ll be visiting a hardware store in the
morning. While riding yesterday ! managed to do some climbing standing up. !
haven't been able to do that unloaded since ! figured out how to do it w/ all
the gear. It just happened. ! figured the trailer was affecting the handling
and not just the weight. Today ! climbed w/out the trailer and did ok. It
just happened all of a sudden. ! even did a 'cross dismount. ! may be able to
ride an unburdened bike again after all. 17 miles.
