Day 64 On to Vancouver, BC August 14, 2001
Shortly after 5 am we woke to Enigma and ate breakfast while the sun came
up. We needed an early start since we had 40 miles to the harbor. Hopefully
we'll actually sail today. Leaving the bay it was foggy and it looked like we
would get some good wind. It didn't happen. More motoring. We didn't use the
auto pilot today. We took turns @ the wheel. Mostly ME of course. About mid
day some breeze. ! kept steering as MY crew hustled about opening the genoa
sail. Finally sailing. The chop was fun too. The bow going up and down
crashing in the surf. Nothing bigger than a 1 meter wave. The wind lasted
over an hour then it was back to motoring. There were giant ferries and
container ships plying the strait w/ us. Many of them once we had the
Vancouver suburbs in sight. We came under the main highway bridge into the
narrows. Lots of traffic. We found a dock to moor @ in North Vancouver and
tied up. It was time for dinner. We went looking for a pub. Everything was
closed. Finally we found a place for fish & chips. ! still had to go across
the inlet to Vancouver then about 10 kilometers to the hostel on Jericho
Beach. We were right next to the Sea Bus. ! got to the hostel about 10
tonight and into bed. 9 miles.
