Day 74 Run For the Border August 24, 2001

! got up early this morning for breakfast and to bust the Jackal out of
prison in the basement of Union Station. Loaded up ! rode to the pier an hour
early. That gave ME time to true the back wheel and pump up the tyres. Loaded
onto the hydroplane and we're off. The boat taxied out of the harbor then up
onto the foils @ 34 kts. Lake Ontario was all 1 meter swells. It was kind of
bumpy and lots of fun. ! had to wander around onboard some. Once ! took a
step and the boat dropped out from under ME. ! was a few inches off the floor
suddenly. We cruised a little ways down the river and were dispatched. They
told ME there was a "big" hill to climb into town. ! think ! missed it. !
went down to see the falls. It's only a 20 minute walk from the hostel. 41
million showers. That's a lot of water. Then ! rode around town searching for
food. ! went to the market for antihistamines. They don't seem to be working.
The market is a fairly large building. Very little of it is devoted to food.
! wonder how they eat here. ! had to get Chef Boyardee ravioli primavera.
After dinner a dozen hostelers went down to the Falls to see the fireworks.
They were all lit up. ! should have taken MY camera. ! sat there w/ sore legs
until ! decided to put MY feet in the fountain. It just made sense to face
the fireworks and cool off MY calves to keep them from getting sore. We were
supposed to go to the beer garden afterwards. $4 cover. !'m out of toy money
so ! just came back to the hostel. !'m a block from the bridge to America. 20
miles.
