Day 85 West Tisbury, TA September 4, 2001
They charged ME $15 for the campsite last night and it wasn't even a full
hookup one like the others had been. First thing was up and over the Sagamore
bridge. That had ME stressed a bit. It wasn't too bad. Then looping around to
find the road ! wanted. It was fairly flat most of the way, but for some
reason it felt like it was tough to go. There was a head wind so that was
part of it. Another part was that Saturday coming into Brookline,TA ! hit a
pothole really hard and snapped the cable that supports MY handlebar bag. All
day yesterday ! couldn't see MY map or MY watch. It was really annoying, but
being Labor Day ! had resigned MYself to dealing w/ it. Today was different.
! was hoping to find a bike shoppe and none were appearing. ! also needed to
lube MY chain. ! came into Falmouth, TA about 5 miles from the ferry dock w/
15 minutes to get there or wait another 45. There was a shoppe. ! got
everything set in order and they told ME there was a ferry that left from
just a few blocks away and went to a dock a bit farther from MY destination.
! figured ! could checque it out. It was just getting ready to leave a few
minutes after ! got there so on ! went. There was a seagull that would chase
the boat until it got right behind us then he would soar right off the
starboard side for awhile before peeling off to chase us again. He was really
close. About 8 feet away. The island is heavily trafficked. Cars everywhere.
It was several miles to the hostel in West Tisbury. Then ! headed off to the
market. It was 4 miles away they said. It was. It was just hidden. And
expensive. There wasn't even a sign on the store when ! found it. It just
kinda resembled a grocery store. Not many miles today except for the several
excess miles looking for the market. 49 miles.
