Day 51 Into the City August 1, 2001

It was mostly flat riding today. Back to Tenino for breakfast then up 507. Just before !
got to why 7 ! did 6 intervals just to remind MYself why ! don't do them all the time. !
was still clearing lactic acid out of MY legs when ! got into Spanaway, WA. ! went
almost to the North side of Tacoma before ! asked where the hotels are. They're all
down South. Back 7 miles to the Motel 6. They say Tom Bodet doesn't come around
to tell us a story before bedtime, but !'ll be watching for him just in case. There's an
Army base SW of here w/ an airport. !'ve seen lots of BIG military planes making sharp
turns down low over town. ! made it to Performance. They had most of what ! needed,
but no rack. The store in Redmond doesn't have one either. !'ll have to order one and
return the busted one for credit. !'ll be going to the IHOP for breakfast tomorrow then
onto the ferry to Vashon Island for a few days. The Seattle hostel is all booked up. !'ll
have to take the ferry over there to get espressos. !'ll probably be staying up late
tonight to install new parts. It actually turned into a high mileage day. Good thing ! left
early. 70 miles
