Day 35 Second Millennium July 16, 2001

Today is the day ! hit 2,000 miles. Just North of Rio Dell, CA. Once
again on the freeway. ! got an early start. On the road @ 8am through the
redwoods. Then out onto 101. ! made Eureka, CA by noon and found a bike
shoppe. ! had them tighten up the bolt in MY pedal. That stopped the infernal
ticking !'ve been worrying about for a week or two now. ! also got a cap
since it is bitterly cold around these parts when !'m off the bike. The
shoppe had caps w/ Japanese characters on them. ! got the one for the
Avalanche. Avs rule. Then bagels for lunch and over the bridges to Somoa
island in the bay. It looked like ! might save a few miles by going over the
bridge instead of around the bay on 101. Not much, but it was not nearly as
busy. The wind was back today. !'m back on the coast. ! planned a big day
today so ! could just do a few miles tomorrow to the hostel in the Redwood
National Park. ! get to sleep late tomorrow then find a good place for
breakfast. Hope ! can find a Denny's. !'m rather fond of the Grand Slam
Slugger deal. Mmmmm. ! walked on the beach and sat out there reading today.
!'ve noticed that the road sides are littered w/ scraps of redwood. Just
about out of power so it's time to shut down. 82 miles.
