Day 30 By Golly It's Been a Month Now July 11, 2001
! left Point Reyes this am and got to walk most of the first 2 miles up
that 17% climb. After that it was up and down. Some nice, fast sweepers and
little climbs. About half the day was on the San Andreas Fault line. Later !
got to the big climbs. One looked like the climb to Independence pass except
it was green. ! rode the whole thing. The thing !'ve noticed about the little
roads in CA is that they often have treacherous precipices on one side. No
guardrails. Just a few wildflowers to keep you from plummeting to your death.
Finally over the top. ! was ready for a campsite by now but doubted ! would
find one anytime soon. Then, boom, there it is. A nice spot too. ! have a
little foot bridge across to MY spot and a big redwood to lean the Jackal on.
After pitching MY tent ! walked down to the beach. No sand just rocks and
touched the Pacific for the first time. ! had touched water in San Francisco
Bay and Drakes Bay, but this wasn't a bay @ all. This was the real thing. The
ocean is a huge place. It goes to the edge of the world. Time to sleep now.
61 Miles.
