Day 25 Big Day in California July 6, 2001

! rode around town some then to Watsonville. That was over an actual
mountain pass only it was 3,000' and 40* lower than what ! would have been
dealing w/ riding across the desert. It is so much nicer here. By 11am ! had
stopped @ a small winery and had a few tastes. In Watsonville ! stopped by
the bike shoppe for some parts and saw lots of airplanes going over. Off !
went to the airport. ! got checqued out in a Katana. Just after takeoff ! got
MY first sight of the Pacific. We actually were flying out over the water.
For a tiny little plane the Katana really goes fast and climbs well. Then
through Santa Cruz, CA out onto Highway 1. The Pacific Coast Highway. All you
have to do here is camp on the beach. If you can find a way onto it. ! looked
for quite awhile before ! found a spot and it's not even on the beach. There
are cliffs that ! don't even want to consider dragging the Jackal down or
back up. ! can hear the ocean and see it. It goes on forever. ! guess there
really isn't anything out there. 67 miles.
