Day 23 Las Vegas July 4, 2001
What a tough night. The wind picked up just as ! was setting up the tent.
Then it started going really strong. Of course it was directly into the side
of the tent so no ventilation. ! was a little worried about tent damage but
it seems OK. Once the wind subsided it was just hot. ! was dripping sweat
trying to sleep. ! did for short bits. Around midnight ! got hit in the face
by a couple raindrops so ! scurried outside and put up the rain fly. Now even
less ventilation and the 5 raindrops was the whole storm. ! had all the doors
open and finally got a few hours. Now !'m just killing time 'til the cafe'
opens then off to Vegas. ! made it to Vegas. After 10 hard miles ! got onto
the Boulder Highway and got to race w/ a triathlete for a few miles. The
strip is really cool looking, but the rest of town is just ugly. Tonight @
7pm ! find out if ! win the Mustang convertible or the Harley. ! think the
Mustang is preferable. !'ll load up the Jackal and cruise to CA then sell it.
It was 105* when ! got here. !'ll get pictures for next time. A mere 31
miles today.
