Day 12 Siesta June 23, 2001
! woke up in Beclabito since that is where ! went to sleep. Once ! was
all packed up ready to go ! went to see the missionaries for some water. Ken &
Evelyn Greenwell were quite nice. Evelyn had been making bread and gave ME a
loaf. ! just ate half of it for dinner. Tasty. Their son took off many years
ago on a bike tour from Kansas City, MO and ended up in Seattle. Thanks for
the bread. So it was back into AZ for ME to start out. In the last 2 days !
went through Baclabito, NM and Teec Nos Pos, AZ 3 times each. 64 became 160
then ! got on 191 down to Round Rock. Then 12 will take ME the rest of the
way to Window Rock tomorrow. Just before ! got to Rock Point ! got rained on
for a good 5 minutes. Then came the wind. ! pulled up @ the PO and lay down
on the bench for a half hour while the winds subsided.Quite refreshing. Alas,
the next 16 miles to Round Rock were for some reason incredibly dull. After !
got onto 12 the heat started to get to ME. ! found a little house w/ a shady
side and took a nap on their porch. By then it had cooled off quite a bit but
! could see virga and rain all around and lots of wind. ! waited more then
decided 6 more miles may get ME out of it and ! should try it. After 5 miles
! changed MY mind and pitched camp. Just in time too. It's now raining on ME.
Not hard. Good thing ! put up the rain fly. It should be gone in the morning
and !'ll be off to Window Rock. A mere 50 or so miles away. See, ! am cutting
back. 84 miles today
