Day 11 Four Corners June 22, 2001

Remember: le Tour de France starts on July 7. Coverage is on Outdoor Life
Network w/ Phil Ligget. www.OLNTV.com Tune in to see Lance win his third Tour
in a row. ! wouldn't mind if you taped it for ME either.

There is only one spot in the entire US of A where 4 states have their
borders come together. That spot is 66.5 miles from MY motel in Farmington,
NM. Since ! was in the motel last night ! sent and received e mail. From
earlier episodes you may recall that ! flew MY buddies Bob & Leo out to ky.
(the jelly state) to stay w/ Mother while ! was touring. Bob cat doesn't care
for travelling. He really didn't like the flying. He crawled under the back
seat and just huddled there. ! clipped their leashes to the fence @ the
airport while ! unpacked the plane. He thought ! was going to abandon them or
something and kept trying to climb over the fence to ME. He loves ME so much.
! was there on and off for 4 days then flew home. Mother just informed ME
that a couple weeks ago Bob took off and hasn't been seen since. The dogs
weren't harassing him. !'ve heard stories of kitter catters crossing whole
countries to get back to their people. ! wonder if that is his plan. !'m
hoping he is just hanging out in the woods and will return to Mother's house
soon. ! am quite worried about him and wondering if this whole trip is a
mistake.Giving up Bob is too much. It's too late to fix it now. ! just hope
it takes him longer to get home than it takes ME. We are homeless and ! doubt
the "sponsors" would know what to do w/ him showing up. Perhaps they'll fall
for him and sneak him in to his house. ! miss him a great deal. ! hope he is
OK.
The desert is a harsh and unforgiving environment. ! left Farmington this
morning after 11. ! had planned on going to 4 corners then on across AZ to
the Grand Canyon. Once ! got an AZ road map ! realized that the entire way
would be on Indian Reservations. After the one ! had just covered ! didn't
want to spend several days in another one. That and Mother's church group
does missionary work in Window Rock AZ (near Gallup, NM) and the cook said !
would be welcome to come by for food and a shower. ! sure would like to take
a day off and a little back tracking to go around the res. didn't look so
bad. Off ! went to 4 corners. By the time ! hit Beclabito ! had drunk over
half MY water and wasn't sweating anymore. That sounds like the symptoms of
heat stroke. Lo & behold an Indian Chapter House. ! stopped in for more
water. After dumping most of what ! had on MY head and chugging the rest !
went into the bathroom to refill and stick MY head under the faucet. By the
time ! left ! was chilled and shivering. Ahhhhhh. While @ 4 corners ! talked
to a guy who did the '96 RAAM (Race Across AMerica) on a team of 8 tandems.
They finished in a little over 6 days. He brought his camcorder over an
talked to ME about MY trip. Now on the way back ! figured ! would stop @ the
Beclabito Baptist Church for the night. That is where ! am now. The minister
advised ME to go back to AZ and take highway 191 instead of 666. That will
take ME almost straight to Window Rock w/ just a couple extra miles. ! am so
watched over. 85 miles today. ! know. ! really want that day off.
