Day 10 Scorched on the road to ruins. June 21, 2001
Up and on the road by 9am today. ! figured !'d take 2 days to get to
Farmington, NM. Just as ! got on the highway the sign said 50 miles. That
means one day and @ the rate ! was going to start out ! could be there by
noon. Just north of Farmington is the Aztec Ruins monument. Why not stop by
there? ! did. Turned @ Bloomfield and went up one steep climb. ! kept
chanting "! think ! can, ! think ! can" Made it. Then it kept going up just
not as steep. The ruins were interesting. Not really Aztec. They were
actually Anisazi. ! had been flying most of the way to town except for a few
hills. Back to Farmington the road turned evil. 3 lanes. Busy. Shoulder about
4 inches wide and sandy. And the heat. 94*F. !'m feeling much better now that
!'ve had a cool shower and a hot meal. ! got an AZ map so ! can plan out
where !'ll be heading next. Definitely up to the Four Corners. Then towards
the Grand Canyon. That's what you get when you ride around the water bars on
the trails. Just finished laundry. Those gloves really reaked.
